As you remember perhaps from school, the 23. pair of human chromosomes is built differently for males or females. Women have two X chromosomes and men have one X and one Y chromosome. Every man gets his Y chromosome from his father and transmits it only to his sons - like traditionally the surname! This fact opens up new fascinating perspectives for genealogy. According to the founding document of our family from the year 1324 all Piechowskis would descend from only one man. This man was the father of "Nicolaus und synem brudir" (Nicolas and his brother - they got the Land of Piechowice as a feud from the Teutonic Order). So do all Piechowskis have the same Y chromosome? -Or do the 9 known different branches of the Piechowskis (Colat, Skoczek, Skoczycz, Nagnioth, Zyla, Sieczka, Zaraw, Zuroch, Pazatka) are of different origin? -Is it true, that the Piechowskis descend from the polish crown? Or is it true that the house Piechowski is of old-prussian tribe?

These tests determine the exact haplotype of your Y chromosome. Best fitting for our purpose is the "Y-DNA-67-Test". In this test 67 markers of the Y-DNA are analysed and determined. You will know your Haplogroup, to which original people you belong and from which original land your ancestors came from.

For the systematic research of the hisrory of the Piechowski familiy , there was opened a Piechowski Surname-Project on FTDNA. Every male Piechowski who made a Y-DNA test can join this project. If you live in Europe, you can use the service of IGENEA . This company cooperates with FTDNA .So it is no problem to make the test with IGENEA and join later the surname project of FTDNA.

Of course I made already the Y-DNA test and I hope that a lot of Piechowskis will follow me. If you decide to make the test, I am very happy if you would contact me!
